Introduction to Noor Montessori:

                   Noor School & College Mansehra has a reputation for providing high-quality care and education to our students. It is owned by the Chairman, Malik Abdush Shakoor, who is a Ph.D (Sch) Education and a renowned educationist of Mansehra. Children are welcomed from age 3 to 6 years led by experienced and qualified staff committed to deliver a genuine Montessori education.

Montessori Education is Special & Unique Education

Research has proven that children in Montessori classrooms develop their capabilities in unique ways, and outperform children studying at conventional schools, not just in academics but also other areas of life. Montessori Children seem happier, are less demanding and are easier to live with than the other children of the same age, who have not had similar assistance in their development. Visitors to a Montessori School are amazed to see little children, barely out of their diapers, working with concentration and purpose on activities of their choice. There is order and peace. The sight of a 22 months old, spreading dough with a rolling pin and using a cutter to form the shapes or putting on their own aprons, gathering materials, carefully holding the brush, making a painting that pleases them and attaching it with a clothespin to the drying rack – all with minimal need for assistance, comes as a surprise to adults.

 Children are also seen spontaneously cleaning up for each other when accidents happen. They learn to wait their turn, walk around each other without bumping and share the attention of the adult. The look of pride and self-satisfaction on the child’s face after each accomplishment is a clear indication that inner development is taking place. There is no fatigue in these children. Sense of accomplishment fills them with renewed energy. They seem to be as fresh as they were in the morning, when their parents come to collect them in the evening.

Montessori VS Traditional:

Montessori philosophy differs from traditional schools in many ways. Children are grouped in multi-age groups spanning two to three years. Multi-age classrooms serve to encourage cooperation, minimize competition, provide opportunities for indirect learning for younger students as they observe older peers, foster self-confidence in students who serve as role models, and provide long-term child/adult relationships. Educational materials are concrete to aid the child to learn order, to discriminate physical dimensions, provide opportunities to teach responsibility, coordination, and interdependence, and to indirectly prepare for complex abstract concepts. Each child initially responds to an inner urge to develop both knowledge and build identity through spontaneous activity which charts the course for individualized lessons.

Here is a specific list of differences between Montessori and Traditional way of teaching:

Child can work where he/she is comfortable, moves around and talks at will (yet does not disturb the work of others). Child sour in the assigned chair and is expected to spend most of school day stationary.

Our Montessori Classrooms

Introduction:

 Montessori philosophy is a child-centered developmental educational method, based on theories of child development originated by Italian educator Maria Montessori (1870-1952). Maria Montessori believed the early years of a child’s life to be the most important for developing the child’s intelligence.

An Environment Which Helps Each Individual:

 Entering our classroom, you will immediately notice a calm but busy atmosphere, where the children are involved in small group or individual activities. The equipment they are using was designed by Maria Montessori to develop the child’s concentration, co-ordination and independence. The children are given freedom within a structured environment to choose activities that appeal them, and to work with the materials for as long as they need.  Noor supports the need for each child to develop his/her learning and at his/her own individual pace.

Child Centered Education:

 Montessori teachers closely observe each individual child, kindly and gently directing all of them in their learning rather than entertaining them or telling them what to do. When a teacher notices an interest awakening in the child, she introduces him to an activity that will satisfy his/her learning desire.

Activity Based Learning:

 There is nothing in classroom which can be hazard for children; every activity is there for a reason and has a specific purpose. Specially designed Montessori activities aid the child’s development of their sensory, numeric, language, scientific and practical skills. Current research child neuropsychology concurs with Maria Montessori’s observation that the child’s brain is actually constructed by movement. In order for children to make sense of the world, they need to experience with their senses, need to touch, move, manipulate, smell, taste and construct. All Montessori activities require the child to be active, or ‘hands-on with pulled laces’. Noor provide our Montessori students with the best environment for this “Activity Based Learning”.

Learning By Doing:

 In our classroom, mistakes are a means of learning, we believe in learning by doing ‘. How could I make this work?’ is the question which keeps our children busy and motivated. “I did it all by myself” is a phrase we hear every day accompanied with the big smiles on our children’s faces. Our children do not need rewards or stickers, but develop their self-esteem and self-respect naturally, and children who feel self-respect, naturally learn to respect others as well.

Indoor Play Land:

  To make students stay at school more fun; many different types of swings are present in the play land so that they can enjoy their free time.

Curriculum:

 The well planned and rich curriculum has been developed to take children’s learning forward and to provide opportunities for all children to feel worthy and to achieve success.

The resources and equipment in the Montessori are prepared and set out to reflect the Montessori philosophy of education and include a wide range of Montessori materials and activities. The Montessori curriculum works in harmony with the areas of learning and development as set out in the Early Years Learning Stage(EYLS), as shown below:

The practitioners work closely with parents to enable each child to develop to their full potential, and to provide support through each child’s transition to their Primary School. We respect each parent’s role as the child’s first educator and endeavour to develop a strong and effective partnership with each parent. We provide regular information in a variety of ways including our facebook, notices, meetings and progress reports.

Co-Curricular Activities & Field Trips:

Our co-curricular programme taps into student interest and encourages children to experience new and varied activities. Artistic performances, drama, sports, running club, art classes and more have all been on offer. Such activities allow children to widen their perspective while encouraging teamwork, confidence, positive personal interests, initiative and leadership.

Field trips provide an important expansion of classroom learning by allowing children to experience new settings and environments. Through field trip experiences children can apply the skills of an investigator or environmentalist, and explore the field as a historian or geographer.

 External resources are also brought into the school, as a way to further enhance the learning of specific topics or subjects.

 Field trips include trips to zoos, cultural centers, orchards, gardens, historical places, art galleries, regional theaters, puppets shows, flower festivals, nature preserves and local museums, coordinating with various classroom curricula and studies.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

The school has a set of policies regarding such aspects as equal opportunities, safeguarding, complaints, health and safety etc.

CLASSROOM EQUIPMENT:

From time to time you may find that your child brings something belonging to the school home with them. We would kindly ask that it should be returned as soon as possible. Seemingly insignificant objects may well be part of a set which is highly expensive to replace! Thank you.

BEHAVIOUR:

 We aim to encourage helpful, friendly and polite behaviour at all times. We are all used to young children and encourage their social development. Where unacceptable behaviour has been witnessed the school will discuss with the parents possible strategies to prevent/reduce such behaviour. In case of non-compliance, the school reserves the right to ask the parents to remove the child from the school.

MEDICATION :

We are not permitted to administer any medicines to your child. No medications should be sent to school with your child.

CONTACT DETAILS:

 Parents are responsible for notifying the school, in writing of any changes to contact details. Current emergency contact details, mobile phone numbers etc are essential.

COLLECTION PROCEDURE:

 Contact details for authorized persons must be complete. Any change of collection must be received in writing. The school reserves the right to keep any child at the school should there be any doubt.

PICKUP AFTER DISMISSAL:

Please make sure your children arise in the time or on time and pick them up with in thirty minutes of dismissal.

Parent Teacher Conferences:

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled from time to time. Parents are given the opportunity to take advantage of these conferences. Teachers are available for special conferences as necessary. Speak directly with your child’s teacher to make arrangements. We believe good communication between home and school is essential to the best learning environment for the child. Coordinator will periodically make personal phone calls throughout the school year. You may call to her as well.

Potty Training Policy:

 To attend The Montessori School, your child must be fully potty-trained. This means that your child consistently spends at least three days without an accident. If your child is not potty-trained by March 15, his/her enrollment can be withdrawn by the administration.

Lunches:

  1. At The Montessori School, parents are responsible for their child’s lunches. All children staying for lunch need to bring a lunchbox each day. Please provide meals that include theimportant basic food groups. Please be sure to send nutritious lunches your child will eat and enjoy. Please do not send candy, pop or sugary foods. We have a strict no-chocolate policy.

Indoor Carpet Shoes:

All children wear indoor carpet shoes (or slippers) while in the classroom for several reasons. The Montessori Method recognizes the child’s need for quiet and order in the classroom to allow them greatest opportunity for concentrated work. The opportunity to take off and put on shoes increases their level of independence and dressing skills. These also eliminate a higher noise level in the classroom. The children use mats for a great deal of floor work and slippers help to maintain the cleanliness of the environment, alleviating mud and dirt being tracked into the classroom with street shoes. We ask you to provide slippers to be kept at school. Please mark the child’s name on both slippers.

School Calendar:

The calendar of events/themes will be provided to students randomly in the start of the every month.  Weekly theme must be followed.

  Late Fee:

                   Students; who fail to pay their fee on time, are fined as follows:

The fee must be paid by the 10th of every month, after which a late fee fine of Rs- 50/- per day will be charged till 20th of the month after which the student’s name will be struck off from the school roll. In such a case admission fee will have to be submitted again by the parents.

The amount of late fee may be increased by the administration.

Admission Process:

The admission process is extremely simple and easy. We believe that all children are great learners and have made miraculous accomplishments before they start going to school. For example they have;

  1. Learnt to speak and understand more than one language.
  2. Mastered exceptionally complex psychomotor skills like standing, walking, running, jumping, skipping, balancing, etc.
  3.  Understood   many aspects of their culture.
  4. Learnt to communicate their needs, interact and understand facial expressions.

These are a few of the several dozens of exceptional abilities they have acquired without making any conscious efforts. We believe in their outstanding potential to learn and thus do not take any admission test for Pre-Nursery Only oral assessment is taken.

An admission test is however required for enrollment in grade Nursery and Prep. The purpose of taking a test here is to ensure that the child has met the pre-requisites to take part effectively in these advanced and more complex studies.

Here is the step by step process to apply for enrollment.

  1. Visit the school office and inquire if there are openings for new enrollments.
  2. Get the prospectus and the admission forms.
  3. Submit the completed admission forms along with the copy of a parent / guardian’s CNIC and child’s birth certificate or the B-Form.

ACADEMICS

Academic Calendar:

(Pre-Nursery to Prep)

Mid-term: The duration of the mid-term will be 3 ½ months and 40% of the course will be covered in this term.

Final term: The duration of the final term will be 6 months and all the remaining course will be covered in this term.

Monthly Tests:           

  • Monthly tests are conducted every month.
  • At least two term exams are conducted every year as per coverage of the syllabus.
  • Results of the term exams and final exams are sent to parents on result card. Answer sheets of monthly tests are sent to home after announcement of the results.

Results:

Examination Result Cards are sent/handed over to the parents after every examination. These cards contain detailed reports on the academic performance in various subjects in the class, the curricular and co-curricular activities as well as development of their personality traits.
